While mining is scheduled to continue for another 30 years, that time passes quickly. So, as the caretaker of both the property and the Hollins family name, Dixie Hollins has created a vision for the family ranch. For Dixie Hollins, that plan includes adding value to the region, supporting economic development and continuing the legacy of stewardship passed on to him by his father and grandfather.
Dixie has spent a lot of time talking to folks about what the future land could look like. And he’s excited to share that vision with you here. The most important thing to know: there is no plan to expand the mining.
The Hollins family has been a part of Citrus County since 1942 when they bought the property known as Hollinswood Ranch. The ranch is comprised of cattle, timber and mining operations, and has provided good jobs for the community for many generations.
As Citrus County continues to change, we have more pressure on our natural
resources. We also have less access to the water—something that brought
many people here in the first place. For the Hollins family, it’s not
